A Soft November Evening at Home

I leaned back into the sofa in front of my window. On the wall across from me hangs a mirror that perfectly reflects the window behind me. It feels as if a second window has opened on my wall — a quiet little world made of light, sky, and home. As the soft blue of the day faded into evening, it reminded me that tonight is the meteor shower — a small moment of magic waiting just beyond our backyard.

In our home, evenings often start with something simple from the kitchen. Because my son has allergies to dairy, nuts, and sesame, we always make our own homemade nuggets. Over time, they became a family favorite — so good that we even created a funny little song inspired by the Minecraft movie’s “Lava Nuggets.” In our version, they’re “Mama Nuggets,” and somehow the name makes them taste even better. Tonight’s dinner: warm nuggets, cucumber and radish slices, and sparkling water. Safe, simple, and ours.

After dinner, I encourage my son to sleep in his own bed again. He’s six now, but not long ago — when he was still five — his routine shifted suddenly. His father began spending weekdays away, visiting only on weekends, and that change made him afraid of losing me too. So I let him sleep beside me. Night after night, he curled close, and together we built a little island of comfort. Now, slowly, I’m helping him feel strong and confident in his own space again.

Becoming a single mother wasn’t something I planned, but it became something I learned to live with — one small choice, one warm meal, one bedtime at a time. Between homemade nuggets, quiet evenings, and the soft light that fills our home, my son and I found our own rhythm. A gentle way of moving through life together.

And tonight, as the sky gathers its faint trails of light, we’ll step into the backyard — a mother, a child, a sky — finding our way in the quiet. Under that soft November glow, I’m reminded that love keeps us steady, and the universe always leaves a little light for us to follow.
